Story Summary
The story follows Takopi, a pink, octopus-like alien from the “Happy Planet” who comes to Earth carrying “Happy Gadgets” designed to spread joy. He befriends Shizuka Kuze, a lonely 9-year-old girl suffering from neglect and relentless bullying.
Takopi’s naive attempts to help Shizuka backfire horrifically, leading to tragedy. Using a time-rewinding gadget, Takopi tries to undo his mistakes, but every reset only creates new cycles of death, despair, and moral compromise.
As the loops unfold, the series exposes the root causes of trauma in the children’s lives, exploring how abuse and neglect shape cruelty. Ultimately, Takopi learns that happiness cannot simply be forced with gadgets — and sacrifices himself to give Shizuka and her friends a chance at a better future.
